Playbook 15: Cherish the Friendships

A Letter to You

The People Who Walk Beside Them

One day, your senior may not remember every assignment they turned in or every test they took.

But they'll remember the people.

The friends who sat beside them at lunch.

The teammates who celebrated the victories and helped carry the losses.

The classmates who stayed up late studying.

The youth group friends who prayed with them.

The ones who made ordinary school days unforgettable.

Senior year has a way of making friendships feel different.

Everyone starts talking about the future.

Some friends will head to college.

Some will join the military.

Some will begin careers.

Some may move across the country.

For the first time, your senior begins to realize that life won't always bring everyone together in the same hallways.

That realization can be exciting.

And a little heartbreaking.

As parents, we sometimes focus so much on preparing for the next chapter that we forget to encourage our children to enjoy the people sharing this one.

Friendships are one of God's sweetest gifts.

They teach loyalty.

Forgiveness.

Humility.

Joy.

They remind us that we were never meant to walk through life alone.

Encourage your senior to invest in those relationships while they still have this season together.

Not every friendship will last forever.

But every healthy friendship can leave a lasting impact.

Celebrate the People

This Week's Challenge

Ask your senior:

“Who has made this year better simply by being your friend?”

Then encourage them to do something thoughtful for that person.

It doesn't have to be expensive.

A handwritten note.

A coffee.

A text that says, “I’m really grateful for you.”

Sometimes the smallest gestures become the biggest memories.

Mom's Reminder

The people your child walks beside today often help shape the person they'll become tomorrow. Pray for those friendships. Celebrate them. Welcome them into your home whenever you can. Years from now, your kitchen may still be one of their favorite places because it was where friendships grew.

This Week's Prayer

Lord, Thank You for placing meaningful friendships in my child's life. Surround them with people who encourage their faith, strengthen their character, and inspire them to become the person You've created them to be. Help them be the kind of friend who listens, forgives, celebrates others, and reflects Your love. May the friendships formed during this season continue to bear fruit for years to come. Amen.

The People Who Made Senior Year Special

Memory Mission

Create a page titled: “The People Who Made Senior Year Special.”

Include:

  • A group photo.
  • Favorite inside jokes.
  • Nicknames.
  • A list of everyone who made your senior laugh this year.
  • A favorite memory from each friendship.
  • A note about what you hope they always remember about these relationships.

One day, these names may bring back stories your senior thought they had forgotten.

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

Proverbs 17:17
